Transaid Cup 2026 raises £24k

The transport industry unites at charity football tournament

The fourth annual Transaid Cup brought teams from across the transport and logistics industry together for a day of football, fundraising and friendly competition, raising an incredible £24,000 for Transaid.

Held at Ilkeston Town FC’s New Manor Ground on Thursday 9 July, the seven-a-side tournament welcomed 16 teams from across the sector, including Microlise, GXO, Trent Barton, Michelin and other industry partners.

After a full day of competitive fixtures, Scania were crowned Transaid Cup 2026 champions, with Iron Mountain finishing as runners-up.

More than a game

We’ve supported Transaid since 2015 and co-founded the Transaid Cup with Libra Europe in 2023. Since then, the tournament has become a key annual fundraising event for the transport and logistics industry, helped by the continued support of Ilkeston Town FC, which provides the venue free of charge.

This year’s total takes the amount raised through the Transaid Cup to more than £73,000, contributing to our wider fundraising efforts for the charity.

Beyond the tournament, we continue to support Transaid through fundraising at major industry events, including the Microlise Transport Conference and our annual Charity Golf Day, delivered in partnership with long-standing customer JCB. Over the years, colleagues have also taken on a range of personal fundraising challenges to support Transaid’s work.

In a couple of months, a team from Microlise will take on the ‘Kilimanjaro to Coast’ Cycle Challenge, cycling 454km across Tanzania for our charity partner, Transaid.

Why Transaid matters

Transaid works with governments, local communities and industry partners to improve road safety, strengthen professional driver training and develop sustainable transport systems across sub-Saharan Africa.

Its work supports communities in countries including South Africa, Zambia, Malawi and Kenya, helping improve access to safe and reliable transport. That means connecting people to healthcare, education and employment opportunities and helping build safer, stronger transport networks where they are needed most.

Impact beyond the pitch

Speaking about this year’s tournament, Andree Ball, Events Marketing Manager and Transaid Ambassador at Microlise, said:

“Another fantastic Transaid Cup has shown what our industry can achieve when we come together behind a common cause. The standard on the pitch was impressive, but it’s the impact off it that really matters.

“We’re proud to have supported Transaid for more than a decade, and every pound raised through events like this helps fund projects that save lives, improve road safety and strengthen transport networks in the communities that need them most. A huge thank you to everyone who played a part in making this year’s tournament such a success.”

Caroline Barber, Chief Executive at Transaid, added:

“Partnerships like this play a vital role in enabling Transaid to continue its work improving road safety and access to transport across sub-Saharan Africa.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Microlise, everyone who took part in the Transaid Cup and all those who donated. Every contribution helps us improve lives and strengthen communities.”

Thank you to everyone involved

The Transaid Cup continues to show what can happen when the transport and logistics community comes together behind a shared purpose.

From the teams on the pitch to the supporters, organisers, donors and partners behind the scenes, every contribution helps Transaid continue its life-changing work.
