Meet Matt Harvey, Project Manager

Matt Harvey has worked in the transport and logistics industry for ten years, since he was 18. He has been part of the Microlise project management team for the last five of those years, joining back in 2015.

We spoke to him to find out what his job entails, what he enjoys about it and crucially which superpower he would most like to have.

How long have you worked at Microlise?
2 years 6 months

What’s your job title?
Project Manager

Which team do you work in?
Channel team in Delivery

What’s your background?
I started working as a Support Engineer at a different company and worked my way through the business into the project team. As part of the project team there I was lucky enough to travel to Australia and work on some projects out there for three months. Moving to Microlise to progress my career I started as a Technical Project Manager working on various external and internal projects before moving back to being a Project Manager in June last year.

What does your job entail?
Day to day management of our ongoing delivery projects. Liaising with the customer and internal staff here at Microlise to deliver the best solution possible to the customer.

What do you enjoy most about the work you do?
I like the variety the job brings, there’s a nice balance of office work and going out to site to see customers. I enjoy meeting and building relationships with new customers I’m working with. Probably the most enjoyable part is delivering a successful project. Knowing the hard work and effort put in over the past few months has resulted in our customers being happy with what we’ve delivered is a real buzz.

Which projects are you working on at the moment?
I’m currently managing a programme of work in the military / government  space and I’ve just started a new project with New Holland.

Best thing about working at Microlise?
The people, there’s a great mix of people here at Microlise all the way from the board down. I get on with everyone and normally that’s not the case when you go to work.

Do you have any hobbies?
If I’m not at work, I’m normally on my bike. I signed up to our Transaid ride across Zambia this year so there’s plenty of training needed for that. I’ve been a cyclist for a good few years now so the fundraising is more daunting than the ride itself. Besides that, I’m either at the gym or watching Derby County.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
I would say Spiderman but that would be pretty useless living in Derby, no buildings to swing from. So, probably The Flash – super speed can only help for riding across a country?
