Meet Lauren, A Microlise Entry Level Developer

Graduates form an important part of our recruitment process.

At Microlise we’re always on the lookout for talented software developers to work with new technologies and tools in our quest to innovate and build industry-leading products.

Our developers work with some of the latest tools like docker, hadoop and Xamarin. We know that technology advances at great pace and we need enthusiastic and skilled developers of all experience levels to work together to get the most from them.

In the summer we appointed a number of graduates to our software development team – and we will again next year.

Meet Lauren, one such graduate, and learn about her experience joining the Microlise team.

Lauren Spring – Entry Level Developer

Which university did you study at?
University of Derby,

What course did you do?
BSc (Hons.) Computer Science with a Year in Industry,

How long have you worked at Microlise for?
4 months. I had secured the role during my final year at University and started after graduating.

Has the experience working at Microlise been as you expected?
It’s better! I get a lot more support than I was expecting for my first Graduate role. The Agile structure of of the workflow means you aren’t lumbered with big unachievable tasks either. We work the sprints as a team so everyone is there to support each other.

What is the single best thing about working here?
They don’t want you to stand still in your career. I was assigned a mentor from the beginning and am encouraged to climb one of the many career ladders here with no judgement if I want to switch to another.

Are you working on anything exciting at the moment?
Yes, my team is currently working on a new product which will help drivers even more. It’s supported by multiple APIs and Services talking via RabbitMQ.

Would you recommend Microlise to a fellow graduate?
Definitely. The programming languages and methods used are current and will set you up for a long career in the software industry. There is free fruit in the kitchens daily and it’s a friendly and helpful environment. There are all different types of people working here and you can truly be yourself.

Where would you like your career to take you?
After becoming a fully fledged Developer (hopefully next year) and getting more comfortable with the industry as a whole I would one day like to move into a supervisory/mentor role for others.

Has working at Microlise helped you with your aims?
Yes, they encourage and support me growing my career and provide access and time for me to train and further my knowledge.

Because of the success of the graduate recruitment with Lauren, Microlise will now be recruiting 4 Graduate Developers for 2019. Next year these opportunities will offer four rotations across all development areas within the first year to offer a fully rounded developer experience and provides exposure to all Microlise’s development areas.
