Bretts Transport invests in a more connected operation with Microlise

A £500,000+ investment in smarter transport operations.

Bretts Transport targets 3% MPG improvement with Microlise

We’re delighted to welcome Bretts Transport as a new customer, following their investment of more than £500,000 in a new fleet and transport management technology partnership with us.

The Cambridgeshire-based logistics, haulage and warehousing operator has ambitious plans to improve fleet efficiency, with a target of achieving a 3% improvement in MPG.

To support this, Bretts will introduce our Transport Management System (TMS) alongside integrated telematics and compliance technology, bringing its transport operation together on one connected platform.

The investment will support 180 assets, including 54 tractor units and 126 trailers, across Bretts’ retail, foodservice and manufacturing operations.

Moving towards a more connected operation

With a growing operation and multiple systems in use, Bretts recognised the opportunity to simplify how it manages transport.

By moving away from fragmented technology, the business will be able to bring planning and invoicing into one system, giving teams a clearer view of day-to-day performance.

Our telematics and fleet performance tools will also provide real-time insight into vehicle activity, helping Bretts identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary mileage and improve driver behaviour.

Small improvements across a fleet of this size can make a big difference, particularly when it comes to fuel consumption and operating costs.

Less paperwork. Better visibility.

As part of the investment, Bretts will introduce our SmartPOD app to digitise proof of delivery and reduce the administrative burden on drivers.

It’s a challenge we’re seeing across the industry.

Our latest Navigating UK Transport and Logistics in 2026 and Beyond Industry Report found that businesses spend an average of 2.3 hours every day manually recording proof of delivery, at a cost of £172.40 per day.

Moving to digital processes will help Bretts reduce that burden and make delivery information more accessible across the operation.

The deployment will also include our DVSA Earned Recognition-accredited compliance system, supporting the business in maintaining high standards as its operation develops.

Turning data into better decisions

Wayne Minney, Transport General Manager at Bretts Transport, said:

“This investment represents a significant step forward in how we manage and optimise our transport operation. By bringing planning, fleet performance, compliance and proof of delivery together into one connected platform, we are moving away from fragmented systems and creating a much clearer view of our operation.

“One of the biggest benefits will be the advanced reporting capability. We will have access to the information we want, when we want it, in real time, allowing our teams to make faster, better-informed decisions. Whether looking at vehicle utilisation, mileage, MPG, driver performance, compliance or delivery performance, we will be able to identify trends and act much earlier rather than simply reviewing what has already happened.

“With 180 assets, small improvements can deliver significant results. We have set a clear target of improving MPG by 3%, alongside reducing mileage, improving utilisation and removing unnecessary administration.

“Ultimately, this investment is about giving our people better tools and better information to create a more efficient, compliant and data-led operation, while providing a strong platform for Bretts’ continued growth.”

Supporting Bretts' ambitions for growth

For Bretts, this investment is about more than introducing new technology. It’s about having the right information available when it matters, enabling teams to make informed decisions and respond to opportunities as they arise.

Tim Featonby, Sales Manager – New Business at Microlise, added:

“From the outset, Bretts Transport had a clear vision of what it wanted to achieve – improving efficiency, reducing emissions and simplifying day-to-day operations. By bringing transport management, telematics, compliance and proof of delivery together on a single platform, we’re helping the team build a more connected operation that will support its ambitions for many years to come.”

We’re looking forward to working with Bretts Transport as it takes this next step, supporting its ambition to improve fleet performance while building a more connected operation for the future.
