At the recent Microlise Transport Conference, Chief Executive of the FTA, David Wells, spoke to delegates about the potential for success when data was used collaboratively.
Big Data has been a “buzz term” for some time, relating to how large amounts of data can be used to provide intelligence and insight into a range of issues. In my own world of marketing, data plays a key role, with the information collected through engagement with e-marketing, the Microlise website, etc. informing decision making.
The transport industry is no different, with telematics generating vast amounts of data that has the potential to influence not only the direction of individual organisations, but of the industry itself.
Using data in this way is one challenge, but another is how data can be used in multiple ways, across systems, delivering efficiencies and additional insights.
In his conference address, David spoke of this challenge and the benefits for organisations that are able to use data collaboratively, across multiple systems. A short video was created (played at the conference for the first time) looking at how the FTA, Microlise and transport operator Maritime are working together to break ground in this area.
Maritime has worked with the FTA for some time, using the VisionFTA tachograph analysis service to deliver weekly reporting of infringements and monthly reporting of vehicle information. The detailed reporting generated through VisionFTA allows for reviewing of trends, the debriefing of drivers and the delivery of effective and targeted training.
Maritime has also been using Microlise telematics since 2012, to provide insight into driver and vehicle performance, with an announcement recently that the number of vehicles connected to the Microlise solution had topped 1,000.
In the video below, the topic of using data collaboratively is explored further.
