Clean Air Day 2025: How clean is your feet?

Fuel-efficient vehicles, improved route planning and driver training all can help clean up your fleet, reduce emissions and save you money.

Our research reveals that two-thirds of UK fleet and transport managers are not using any software to track emissions.

The transport and logistics industry has an important role to play in shaping the future of our environment. With the UK government targeting an 81% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2035, fleet and transport managers are uniquely positioned to make a real difference.

Following a recent research study, we revealed that 66% of fleet professionals don’t currently use any form of tracking to measure harmful emissions released by their vehicles.

Which begs the question: how can we reduce GHG emissions, if we’re not measuring them?

The price we pay

The UK’s road transport network is the single largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. These emissions, including nitrogen oxides and particulate matter (PM2.5), not only harm the environment but pose serious health risks – especially for children, the elderly and those with respiratory conditions.

Every year, unclean air is linked to 43,000 premature deaths in the UK. With emissions typically higher in urban areas, the impact is often felt most strongly in our busiest communities.

What can we do about it?

The good news is there are practical, effective steps that can be taken – today. And what better opportunity than Clean Air Day, to sit up and take action?

Microlise CEO, Nadeem Raza offers his advice:

“The first step for companies looking to reduce the amount of harmful gases emitted by their fleets is to track what they emit right now.

“This can be done using fleet optimisation tools which ensure that routes are planned for better fuel efficiency and reducing empty loads that produce greenhouse gases without any material benefit.

“Once this analysis has been conducted, the fleet or transport manager can then decide on other ways to further reduce their fleet’s effects on the environment.”

What solutions can help?

A shared responsibility

With more than 400 of our customers currently using our solutions to reduce emissions, improve safety and streamline their logistics operations, we remain committed to enabling a cleaner, smarter transport sector.

In our most recent case study, Europa Worldwide shared how they have improved fuel efficiency by 12% using our advanced HGV and trailer tracking and driver management tools.

Proving it can be done.

Make Clean Air Day count

Today is not only a reminder of the challenge we face, but a call to action. Whether your fleet is large or small, whether you operate regionally or nationally, the opportunity to contribute to a cleaner tomorrow starts today.

By embracing innovation and harnessing the power of data, we can work together to reduce our impact and help make the air cleaner for everyone.
