“It’s an unprecedented time” is probably the phrase most used to describe the current situation we find ourselves in. What a time it is to be alive. The world will never be the same again. It’s true, isn’t it? We are currently experiencing something that is a first for our generation and something that will doubtless go down in history as the largest pandemic the world has ever seen.

Naturally, when we first went into lockdown, we like many other organisations, made the decision to put a hold on all recruitment while staying focused on the candidates who were already in our pipeline. Our HR, IT and stores teams collaborated to put systems in place so our new starters received everything they needed on Day 1 to recreate their office work station at home. Hardware was preloaded and prepped so laptops, monitors, keyboards and headsets were ready to go. If we weren’t the type of company that was already convinced of the benefit of new technologies we were ready to embrace them now, to identify new ways of supporting new starters and help them embed into their remote teams at speed.

Taking advantage of digital recruitment & collaboration

Since the start of the UK lockdown in March, we have successfully recruited and remotely on boarded a number of people across departments; we’ve welcomed project coordinators and project managers, as well as apprentice developers, solutions architects, and many more! And as if that wasn’t enough we’ve also, thanks to our Microlise Academy, brought in eight new apprentices and graduate developers – but more about that in another blog!

For new starters the change may have been uncomfortable at first – finding a new position is never easy and it’s daunting enough joining a new company, never mind doing so while sitting at home in the middle of a pandemic!

For those of us in the recruitment space, and as virtual recruiting became the new normal  overnight, I’d have to say that I have relished the change and the challenge. We’ve worked hard to turn potential obstacles into opportunities and to successfully bring fresh new talent into our business.

It would have been easy to let the impact of Covid-19 bring recruitment activity to a grinding halt, but at Microlise we are committed to future talent (even during these strange times) and I’m proud to say the business has worked together in the best interests of its people.

We are currently releasing more vacancies to grow our teams. If you, or someone you know, are looking for a new opportunity and want to be part of something special, then please check out our current vacancies at www.microlise.com/careers. If there isn’t anything suitable at the moment, please do register for job alerts. You never know what the future may hold!
