About Chloe

Hey! I’m Chloe and I’m a Recruitment Assistant at Microlise. I started my new role in August 2024 and I absolutely love it. The Recruitment and wider HR Team have been so lovely and welcoming. I’ve had quite the journey so far in my career!

I graduated from the University of Derby in 2021 with a Masters in Primary Education (specialising in Maths.) From University, I rolled straight into teaching in a primary school; teaching a year 5/6 class, and then a year 3 class. Whilst I loved helping children grow and learn, I slowly realised that I didn’t see myself teaching long-term and needed a career move!

My skill set has always been very people-orientated, and I thrive when communicating and collaborating with others. I’d done my research into what other jobs I could go into with a primary teaching degree, but I needed the experience working in an office to decide which route I wanted to go in. I knew I wanted to work in a team where I could collaborate with others, make a difference, and that was people orientated.

Joining Microlise

In February 2023, I joined a Recruitment Agency to see if they could help me get my foot in the door somewhere and shape my future career. The next day, I had a phone call inviting me to start temping as a Receptionist at a company called Microlise. Then I started the day after!

I absolutely loved my time as a Receptionist. Within the first few days, it was clear how great a company Microlise was. Everyone I encountered was warm, welcoming and helpful. I knew this was a company I wanted to start working at permanently!

A job then came open for a Facilities Administrator, which I jumped at the chance to apply. It was a chance to get to know the business at a deeper level and explore my career further. I was able to work with different departments, contractors and suppliers, ensuring we maintained a high level of employee and customer experience.

New Opportunities

I wanted to explore my options in my career and make sure I was in the right department for me. As a ‘people person’, I knew working in Recruitment/HR would be perfect for me, as it aligns with my skillset and long-term aspirations. Once the Recruitment Assistant role went live, I jumped at the opportunity!

The interview process was organised, well-communicated and overall, a very positive experience. I was kept updated throughout the interview process consistently by the Recruitment Team, which was really helpful. As this was an internal application, I was made to feel well supported by both the department I was currently working in, and the department I was applying to work in. Everyone was very encouraging about my wish to change departments, which made me feel much more at ease, and again nurtured in the company.

Training

Within the first few weeks into my new role, the Recruitment Team were exceptionally helpful towards training me up. In the first week, they made sure that a member of the team was in the office to sit with me and show me the ropes. It was a good combination of ‘learn as you do’, alongside physical resources; such as guides which took me through different elements of the role step by step. I also had a few training sessions with members of the Recruitment Team, alongside external training to make sure I was fully prepared for my new role! After the training sessions, they were always very open and let me know that I was always welcome if I needed any further help.

Regular 1-1’s with my manager have also been a blessing. To have a manager who is always there for any question, no matter how big or small, has made me feel very valued in the team.

I have also been able to meet with several key internal stakeholders, to learn about their functional area and how I can support their recruitment going forward. I have found this exceptionally helpful, and I’ve been able to meet individuals that I may not have spoken with previously. It is great opportunity to get to know each other before starting to work with them for their recruitment needs, and I have really loved completing these meetings!

 A Typical Day

As in most roles, there isn’t really a typical day, as you never know what pops up! However, as I’m still learning, I like to stay as organised as possible. This helps me to remember typical recruitment tasks which need completing throughout the week, and form structure around my day.

I am responsible for monitoring the centralised inbox, responding to queries, and liaising with candidates and new starters – I really enjoy speaking with a variety of people and being a part of their candidate journey into Microlise! I also support the wider business with transactional tasks and administrative support for the team, to ensure all involved in the recruitment process have an efficient and streamlined process.

Highlights so far

It’s hard to pick just one highlight since I started at Microlise. It’s been such a positive journey with lots of changes along the way. I would say the biggest highlight would honestly be getting the role as a Recruitment Assistant. It is a goal I’ve always had in my sights since leaving teaching, and I am so grateful and proud to be given the opportunity to be a part of the team.

At Microlise, the employee experience initiatives are fabulous, well-planned and inclusive. There is always some kind of event on, which can range from the summer BBQ, Diwali, Pride, and so many more. My personal favourite so far has been the wellbeing day, where we had a free health check up with Vitality, and even better… a free back and neck massage!

Microlise also run a range of volunteering opportunities for employees to attend. I’ve attended the local litter picking morning and helping to redecorate the main hall at a local ran charity in Nottingham. There is always something to get involved with, and it is a great feeling to know that you are making a difference in your community.

I also had the opportunity to visit the annual Microlise Transport Conference earlier this year. Whilst I worked in Facilities, I wanted to learn more about our products, as I’ve found that it’s so beneficial to keep up to date with how we’re supporting our customers with our software solutions! It was a very enjoyable day, and I learned so much about our products. I would highly recommend anyone who wasn’t already been, or any new starters to go and experience the next one!
