I always think Product Marketing is a fascinating job; it’s a mixture of creativity, communication, organisation and flair, and finding a balance between them is what I believe makes it so challenging yet thrilling.

At Microlise, it’s no different:

  • You’re always busy – there’s always something happening that needs the expertise of Product Marketing so there’s never a dull moment
  • Your voice is heard – your opinions are welcomed and listened to on all projects you’re involved in; there’s no such thing as a stupid question
  • You’re part of the team – you get to collaborate with the wider company and understand how Microlise ticks

No matter what products you’re marketing, there’s always a story to tell and customers to engage with.

About Me

Prior to my role at Microlise, I’ve clocked over five years’ experience in the realms of product marketing, working as part of small family-run companies as well as large corporations, all within the technology industry. Starting out as the only product marketing employee in a business came with its challenges, but it made me realise how much enjoyment I get out of a role like this.

Throughout the last five years, I’ve worked with some amazing people who have given me the space and opportunities to grow and enhance my skillset, which has ultimately led me to my role at Microlise.

Outside of work, I put my creativity to other uses in the form of theatre. This ranges from performing and directing to conducting pit bands, all for the local musical theatre groups. You’d think I’d run out of creative ideas by the time my working day is done, but it seems my brain doesn’t know the meaning of the word “stop”!

My journey to Microlise

I had been looking on and off for a change in employment for around a year when I received a message from the Microlise Recruitment Team on LinkedIn. Within a couple of days, I’d had a few conversations with them over the phone, sent over my CV and booked an in-person interview with my now manager and Head of Marketing.

As soon as I drove up to the building, I got that feeling telling me this was the right place to be. That feeling kept getting stronger throughout my interview; I was put at ease straight away and everyone I met that day was so welcoming. I walked away really hoping I would be offered the job and, a few days later, I’d signed my new contract and handed in my notice at my old job. It honestly felt like the stars had aligned after such a long time looking for a change.

No two days are the same

One day, I’m learning about an upcoming new product launch and brainstorming ideas on how we can make the biggest impact in the market. The next, I’m presenting the next product awareness campaign to the rest of the marketing team to ensure we can communicate to customers about the amazing products on offer to them.

Then there’s all the planning and preparation that’s needed for the annual Microlise Transport Conference. Truth be told, it can be a challenge to prioritise tasks at times, but when everything and everyone comes together, it makes it all worthwhile.

Since joining the Microlise clan, I’ve been to Manchester to scope out a new event space for our annual conference, shared some exciting product launch information during our off-site team days and consumed many hot chocolates from the local coffee van that visits the office.

#TeamMicrolise

Despite only being at Microlise for around four months, I already feel like part of the furniture. Whether it’s at home or in the office, there’s always opportunity for a meeting to collaborate on projects or simply just to catch up with colleagues. The hybrid working style is also very beneficial; if you need to have an in-person chat or some time to get your head down and focus, there’s space to do so.

Coming into the role with no industry experience was pretty daunting, and the first couple of weeks was definitely “information overload”. However, with the help and trust of the team, I felt comfortable and capable to throw myself into tasks knowing I had the support around me.

Microlise definitely has people at its heart and it’s clear to see that from the passion of its employees and the loyalty of its customers. It’s a perfect fit for me and those who want to work hard whilst having fun doing so.
