Goldstar for Microlise with Fleet Performance and Incident Data Recorder Implementation

Goldstar Transport, a market leader in the container transport space with turnover in excess of £70m, has gone live with the Fleet Performance product from telematics platform provider Microlise, in addition to the Microlise Incident Data Recorder, which delivers detailed insight into driver activity before and after any incident occurs.

Goldstar DAF Vehicles Web The solution implemented will deliver enhanced driver performance and safety across the Goldstar fleet of over 350 heavy goods vehicles, which handle over 1000 movements each day for a varied customer base, from major shipping lines to smaller niche market operators.

The team at Goldstar Transport were looking to improve driver performance across the operation, by empowering drivers to improve their own performance. The company was also looking to reduce fuel costs and environmental impact, as a result of the expected increase in driver performance, while an additional objective was to reduce accidents and as a result, insurance premiums.

Following implementation of the Microlise solution, drivers are now provided with a weekly report of performance based on the Microlise A-G rating system. Goldstar only carry out a driver debrief when necessary, managing by exception in terms of directing training resource where it will have maximum impact. Drivers who are performing well are not debriefed, but are instead incentivised through a driver bonus scheme.

As part of the solution delivered, Goldstar Transport has also utilised the Microlise Incident Data Recorder module, which records and sends detailed data back to the transport office, covering the period thirty seconds before and after an incident is recorded. The insight gained from the data allows for a fast resolution to insurance claims, but also provides a view of driver actions, leading up to and following an incident.

“The Microlise solution will deliver a number of benefits to the business,” said Derek Daly, General Manager – Fleet at Goldstar Transport. “Having the ability to manage by exception, only conducting driver debriefs where required, is a positive step for the transport office and driving staff, removing wasted time and unnecessary administration. The solution in place will give us a comprehensive view of driver performance and allow us to reward drivers who perform well.”

Goldstar Transport was formed in 1998, and has quickly grown to become a major platform in the container transport space. The company provide additional services including specialist trailer transport, European distribution and CPC Driver training. Goldstar recently opened a new Driver Training Centre at Woolpit, which is registered to deliver Driver CPC periodic training. The company has been approved by the Department of Transport and the Scottish Qualifications Authority to deliver ADR training including Class 1 Explosives.

“Goldstar is a transport success story, with the use of a Microlise telematics and safety solution now in place to support its future business growth,” said Nadeem Raza, Managing Director of Microlise. “The team at Goldstar are committed to empowering their drivers to improve their own performance, which we very much support as an approach, and we look forward to working with the company moving forwards.”
