With the July summer heat and hilly terrain to contend with, it won\u2019t be a walk in the park \u2013 pardon the pun.<\/p>\n<p>We each have our own reasons for wanting to take part, and some of Team Microlise have kindly shared their own stories and why they\u2019re supporting Macmillan this summer.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lex\u2019s Story <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>My family hardly ever went on long walks together. However, my best friend&#8217;s dad loved getting out in nature. Growing up, he would take us on amazing hikes, which inspired my love for the outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, he lost his battle with pancreatic cancer last year. He was an incredibly generous, cheery, and compassionate person, and it was an honour to know him.<\/p>\n<p>Cancer is an indiscriminate and vindictive disease which affects not only the individual, but those around them too. Everyone knows someone who has been affected by it. This hike will be challenging, but I&#8217;m doing this for my friend, and for everyone else who deals with this terrible disease.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vicky\u2019s Story <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Cancer is an illness many of us have been touched by. It\u2019s certainly one very close to my heart with losing my dad to prostate cancer over 10 years ago and more recently within the last year my brother to brain tumours after such an incredible fight. When the opportunity came up to do a 26-mile hike in July around the peaks where I grew up starting in Bakewell for MacMillan Cancer Research this all seemed a little too close to home to not get involved.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Andy\u2019s Story <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While I\u2019m not new to a bit of training, I\u2019ve never done a challenge like this before. It\u2019s such a worthy cause and one that has, I have no doubt, effected all of us one way or another in our lives. Macmillan and their people are truly wonderful, with the care they provide to our families at the most critical point. They deserve all the support they can get! I don\u2019t usually like asking for anything, but in this case, I don\u2019t mind in nudging anybody toward the donate button. The whole team would be very grateful!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Alicia\u2019s Story <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I am taking part in Macmillan\u2019s Mighty Hike as I, like many others, have personal story of how cancer affected someone close to me, in my case my mum.\u00a0 Being 17 at the time it was hard seeing someone I loved suffer alongside feeling self-conscious of hair loss following invasive surgery and gruelling radio therapy.\u00a0Along came Macmillan who gave my mum a \u2018makeover\u2019 by a professional make-up artist, as well as subsiding a wig that was perfect for her.\u00a0 They truly made my mum\u2019s experience of an awful disease a lot more comfortable, so I would like to support their efforts in the Mighty Hike feat.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Andree\u2019s Story <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are two reason I\u2019m taking part! The first is that cancer seems to be lurking everywhere these days, whether it be a friend, a friend of a friend, a friend&#8217;s family member&#8230;..Macmillan need finances to be able to help these people. The second is that when my mum was very ill with Rheumatoid Arthritis there was no support for her as this isn&#8217;t usually a life-threatening disease. Macmillan stepped in to provide her with help and support.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>About Macmillan<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Currently there are over 3 million people living with cancer in the UK. Macmillan are here to help everyone with cancer live their life as fully as they can, by providing physical, financial and emotional support. They do this by raising money to provide vital cancer services, research and campaign to achieve better cancer care, and support the cancer workforce.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Our Pledge <\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>We have pledged to each raise \u00a3250 and would appreciate any support in reaching our overall team goal of\u00a0<strong>\u00a33,000<\/strong>. Your donation could go towards funding a Macmillan Support Worker for two days who could provide emotional, practical and financial advice to someone affected by cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Any donation, big or small, would be greatly appreciated.
