We now have a brand new position for a Head of Data Engineering, to join our ever-expanding Software Engineering team. Reporting into our Chief Technical Officer, you will be responsible for the delivery and operation of the business’ data platforms including, data lakes, data warehouses, ETL/ELT processes and reporting platforms. You will lead a team of Data Engineers, as well as working collaboratively with other members of the Engineering and Data Science teams, and key business stakeholders, to build out new data platforms as our exciting IIoT plans come to fruition.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead and manage our Data Engineering team  
  • Ownership of the data strategy and operating model
  • Ownership of the data architecture and roadmap
  • Leading the delivery and development of new data platforms and SLAs
  • Ensuring the operation of the existing data platform within SLAs
  • Line and task management of a team of data engineers
  • Defining and ensuring adherence to standards, processes and best practices

What we are looking for:

  • Demonstrable experience within a data leadership role
  • Proven track record of leading the development of ETL processes and data warehouses
  • Experience of migrating workloads from classic ETL/Data Warehouse to cloud style Data Lakes/ELT and real-time processing
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing techniques
  • Solid understanding of dimensional modelling
  • Solid understanding of how AI/ML integrates with the other parts of Data Engineering
  • Experience of developing with Python/Airflow or equivalents
  • Experience of a data warehouse/data lake technologies (e.g. Redshift, Snowflake, Vertica, Azure SQL Warehouse, etc.)

It would be advantageous if you have:

  • Experience with Power BI or similar tool (e.g. Tableau, etc)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, SSIS, SSAS)
  • Knowledge of Ansible or similar DevOps tools
  • Experience using Apache Spark (Pyspark, Spark SQL)
  • Experience implementing MLOps into an organisation
  • Awareness of the relevance of DevSecOps to Data Engineering
